The position

This position will be critical in oversee the work of accountants, review financial statements, and prepare reports for senior management, including duties related to compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Accounting Manager will develop and implement internal accounting policies and procedures.

This role reports to the Head of Finance EMEA, based in Amsterdam with dotted line to the Global Corporate Controller based in Seattle.

Objectives of this role

• Build a best-in-class team of accountants for EMEA region
• Serve as the main point of contact in all tax matters and work together with our external tax advisors
• Stay current with the latest accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations (IFRS, US GAAP, Dutch GAAP)
• Implement lean accounting methods that enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting
• Adopt Advanced Software Solutions
• Develop Risk Management Protocols

Tasks & responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll and utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, trust account statement reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity,
• Manage the month-end closing process, including review of financial statements, coordination with global finance and accounting teams for consolidation of subsidiaries, performance analysis and publishing of internal reports,
• Ensure that estimates, accruals, reserves, and provisions are calculated and supported with appropriate basis or backup, in accordance with US GAAP. Review and ensure timely completion of all account reconciliations coordinate and complete annual audits,
• Lead external financial statement audits, key point of contact with our external Tax advisors
•  Work in close collaboration with the Head of Finance to secure a healthy cash flow and working capital for the region
• Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions,
• Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy,
• Meet financial accounting objectives,
• Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions,
• Provide support for other ad hoc analyses and projects as needed,
• Participate in process improvement projects and support other management directives as prescribed (i.e. Legal entities set up, Transfer Pricing, Statutory Audits, etc.).

Candidate profile

Education and Experience

• +8 years of solid proven experience after obtaining a relevant accounting or finance bachelor’s degree
• Previously worked on EMEA region across Consumer Goods, FMCG, Retail & Apparel (or similar industries of relevant complexity), including supervisory experience
• Experience with AR/AP/GL modules in ERP systems (Oracle is preferred).
• Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards as well as laws and EU / Dutch tax regulations
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills (including but not limited to) pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
• Ability to implement accounting principles and best practices effectively.
• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills with ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport and effectively resolve conflicts
• Solution-oriented, problem-solving mindset and willingness to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
• Fluent in English (fluent in another European language is a plus)
