The organisation
Umincorp is a circular economy plastic recycling company, which has developed from a technology OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for sorting of plastic waste into also co-operating an industrial scale post-household plastic recycling plant (through a Joint Venture) in Amsterdam: Plastic Recycling Amsterdam.
The position
The Finance Director leads the corporate/holding finance of Umincorp and works together with finance & control units of subsidiaries and joint-ventures in The Netherlands, and later internationally as well. The FD sought is the company's financial conscience and pro-active sparring partner for strategic and tactical discussion with the CEO and COO.
Tasks & responsibilities
- The FD will provide financial guidance (plan & control measures) to help steer the operating units, technology development projects and business development initiatives within cash flow and profitability targets;
- Ownership of the budgeting, cash/ working capital and forecasting process, including deep-dive analysis required for decision making and providing direction to the organisation in order to optimise results;
- Active scenario planning and short to long-term risk assessment based on current global events and anticipated developments possibly affecting the market and/or company;
- Deliver meaningful information and providing (strategic) recommendations to the CEO and COO, the Shareholders, the management team and the operational teams;
- Actively managing the internal and external financial reporting -including the monthly reporting to ensuring all statutory, legal and regulatory responsibilities are met, annual audited financial statements, ensuring appropriate control processes and that they are adhered to, compliance and the annual audit process;
- Liaise and manage external legal relationships. Hands on attitude towards sizeable contract negotiations with major business partners and suppliers. Performs transparent financial and legal assessment of (capex/opex/commercial) projects, contracts and improvement decisions;
- Provide a leadership role to the business, through effective communication and demonstrating a willingness to live, breathe and contribute to the values of this organisation.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate has experience in a highly demanding broad financial, ultimately responsible role within a scale-up setting. The new FD is intelligent, a critical thinker and works fact-based. The candidate brings overview, structure, discipline, peace and clarity. He/she/it is curious, wants to understand things properly, constructively challenges the Board of Directors, the management team and the organization.
Main selection criteria:
- Academic level of education in business economics or finance, preferably supplemented with a postgraduate RA or RC training;
- Ca. 7-12 years of broad financial (management) experience of which at least 3-5 years as responsible FD and comfortable in an entrepreneurial scale-up setting or mid-market company. Has signed off (audited) annual accounts and managed external stakeholders (including banks);
- Successful track record in professionalizing finance and operations and realizing change;
- Preference for a candidate who has taken a company through a significant growth period;
- Experience working at a manufacturer or technology & project management company;
- Experience with fundraising, preparing company for investor due diligence;
- Experience working with many different stakeholders who may have competing objectives[
- Enjoys working in organization of broad international people;
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
