The position

For Akzo Nobel we are looking for a Global Head of Functional Control who is not a manager, but a true leader.

• Key Objectives:
  • Control all functional cost of AkzoNobel worldwide and manage a group of Global Functional Controllers that are each responsible for their own Functional Cost Area (FCA). Provide guidance, approval and direction for cost reporting and treatment. Be a true leader, not a manager.
  • Align with Finance Systems, Tax and other Finance domains if required on Functional Cost, controllability and projects or programs impacting structures as such.
• Global Functional Control Team:
  • The Global Functional Control team has 5 Senior Functional Controllers (Amsterdam HQ), each responsible for their own FCA. They are supported by 6 analysts based in the GBS in Poland. Your team has a total of 11 FTE.

  • The Global Head of Functional Control reports to the Head of Group Control, whom reports to the Global CFO.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Global Head of Functional Control inclusive of all global functional costs (EUR ~800m), HQ (Amsterdam) and other functionalities like Treasury and Insurance;
• Lead a team of functional finance navigators, transformation office support and cost analysts;
• Liaise with Finance Operations and Accounting Controllers within representing BAOT in a number of the key countries across the globe;
• Be a key member of the leadership team in Group Control;
• Set guidelines and policies on functional cost reporting in terms of scope of costs, cost centre setup, cost charging and other ways of working ;
• Put financial governance in place to plan, track, and report out on all global functional costs and in that support the central global function governance model in Akzo Nobel;
• Create transparency in- and track (functional) transformation savings and drive corrective action plans and underpinning when deviations do occur;
• Talent and leadership development of the team.

Candidate profile

• University degree in Economics or equivalent, preferably with RA/RC /CMA/MBA
• 10-15 years working experience in different financial functions
• Proven track record to have bottom line OPI impact
• Oversees the big picture, whilst also understanding the lower granularity
• Strong combination of analytical skills and business sensitivity
• Experienced people manager, interest in working with cross cultural teams
• Sound understanding of key systems (HFM, SAP)
• Understanding of accounting principles
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English, verbal and written
• Result driven, ‘Getting it done’ mentality
• Team player, also in complex-matrix organisation and cross-functional teams;
• High integrity and committed to the AkzoNobel values;
• Flexibility is key.

The offer

• Base salary: €120.000 - €140.000
• STI: 20%
• LTI: 330 units
