The organisation
Our client specializes in engineering and fabrication of large, complex steel structures for the offshore oil & gas and energy-related industries. They are recognized for integrated project management capabilities that ensure the successful execution of multidisciplinary Engineering Procurement Construction Installation (EPCI) contracts. With more than 60 years of experience, they offer a comprehensive range of services, from feasibility and FEED studies, engineering and procurement to construction, commissioning and offshore installation.
A total of 900 employees realize a profitable turnover which annually varies between 300 and 400 million euro. In order to anticipate on the cyclical character of the energy markets, some 40% of the workforce consists of a flexible layer. Although the actual oil & gas markets currently show a declining trend in combination with a challenging wind market, the organisation is positioned to continuously convert opportunities to orders.
At the same time they are preparing for a future market upturn. Since 2014 a continuous improvement program applies a company wide focus to work even more intelligently, faster and better. Ownership, knowledge sharing and shorter communication lines aim to further improve process lead times. Entrepreneurship and improved innovation in engineering, production and project management allow to further strengthen and improve the distinctive company characteristics. The position
The Finance and Reporting department, consisting of 13 employees provides financial information and statements to internal and external users. As such it has the opportunity to substantially contribute to the continuous improvement. In order to contribute in realising the anticipated future growth, we are searching qualified candidates for the position of Head of Finance and Reporting who will be sparring partner for the Board and Yard Directors, further develops the department strategy, drives improvements and ensures an effective and efficient financial organization and adequate internal and external reporting.
He or she is also responsible for tax and treasury, part of the Management Team and reports directly to the CFO.
Tasks & responsibilities
Actively contribute to the development of the Finance and Reporting strategy in line with the organisation’s values. Convert this into concrete actions plans for the Finance and Reporting department. Ensure that these values and the strategy are known and owned at all levels in the department.
Act as hands-on leader who directly inspires and motivates his team. Lead by example and guide the performance of others while holding them accountable. Set goals and assign targets to direct reports. Keep close track of activities and supervise the progress of work and guide, coach and correct staff if needed. Instigate close personal involvement and act as hands on manager providing practical support in the execution of work if needed. Regularly organise and chair structured meetings to review performance. Create, maintain and contribute to an effective and positive team spirit.
Deliver consolidated financial reports to the Board, including the Annual Report and the Annual Review. Manage the consolidation processes to ensure on time delivery of accurate periodical financial reporting, while complying with accounting policies. Provide technical accounting advice to the wider finance community and oversee all relevant aspects of the consolidation process.
Ensure an effective financial administration. Continuously improve the quality, procedures and effectiveness of the administration, consolidation and reporting processes. Contribute to the development of a culture of continuous improvement in order to meet stretching performance targets. Identify any needs for change and actively contribute to the realization thereof.
Professionalize the Finance & Reporting department. Improve the financial administrative processes and the (ERP) management information and reporting systems directed at providing accurate, practical and valuable insight in the performance of the organization. Develop and promote cost awareness, financial understanding and a margin oriented ‘sense of urgency’ at non-financial departments. Introduce the effective usage of Key Performance Indicators.
Periodically evaluate staff and consequently identify and act on the needs for expansion or substitution, development and training. Work on employee retention strategies and succession planning activities and ensure competence based recruitment and selection. Acknowledge and reward people’s strengths, accomplishments and development. Give feedback, identify needs for personal development and offer assignments that challenge and grow people’s skill.
Certify that statutory and other legal- or external reporting requirements are met and that the Group complies with generally accepted accounting standards and practices.
Provide detailed analysis of monthly spend for budget holders. Assist in establishing budgets. Monitor, analyse and explain deviations between actuals and budgets.
Responsible for corporate balance sheets reconciliations and ensure a transparent treasury strategy.
Establish and maintain good relations with direct and indirect stakeholders. Build and maintain good relations with colleagues at several positions including the Yard Directors. Liaise with auditors and tax accountant to ensure a clean audit reporting process.
Participate in the quarterly management conventions and the fortnightly management meetings. Report on a regular basis to the CFO and the board reviewing the progress and realisation of the targets and the execution of the strategy. Identify internal strengths, weaknesses and possible threats and opportunities. Analyse, advise and report on them. Recognise the need for change, remove barriers and develop and implement change plans.
Candidate profile
- Master Degree Finance (or Bachelor plus RA/RC)
- Corporate experience in a leading financial position with an international scope and a strong knowledge of Dutch GAAP and IFRS
- Experience with ERP software and reporting software systems
- Visionary with excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- A builder with the drive to excel and persistent in achieving challenging objectives
- Self-starting entrepreneur, pro-active and creative in converting opportunities into results
- Balanced people manager with hands-on mentality
- Used to empower his/her team to achieve goals and improvements
- Obviously possesses excellent social and communicative skills and is a strong team player
- Down to earth, flexible and tactful while holding on to the set targets

- A strong set of personal values matching those of the organisation and it’s vision are indispensable
- Fluent in English, both verbal and in writing
- Willingness to travel (approx. 25% of the time)
