The position
The Senior Finance Director will be the right hand of the CFO and will manage and oversee the finance function in the wider sense (reporting, risks, IT, insurance, tax, compliance). The Senior Finance Director will serve as a trusted and dependable business advisor to the CFO, the leadership team, the Board and other stakeholders (lenders, advisors, etc.).
The Senior Finance Director is a true professional with well-honed management skills, is structured, is process oriented, team player and a good counterpart for the CFO.
The successful candidate will be a strong all-round Financial, with solid hands-on Accounting, Corporate Financing, Reporting, Risk, Compliance, Treasury and International Tax experience. They ensure timely, accurate and compliant delivery of accounting transactions and financial results. They will provide timely and meaningful financial insights and analysis to drive sound business decisions. They will have good experience of project financial management, working with other colleagues to ensure cost-effective delivery of corporate ventures/initiatives/projects. The Senior Finance Director also plays a key role in the implementation of the Company’s ERP system and integration of all other project management, asset management, and CRM systems, with an emphasis on the implementation of a uniform, single ecosystem, management information system in a cost effective, industry standard fashion.
Together with the CFO the Senior Finance Director will play a critical role in steering the future course of the business and contribute to the development and execution of the company’s strategy.
The Company has decided to move all HQ and shared finance functions to The Netherlands. The Senior Finance Director will be based in The Netherlands, and will be tasked with developing a high-performance finance team and improve, where necessary re-design, processes and work flows, to support the growth of the company. In addition, the Senior Finance Director will play an important part in managing the Company’s compliance and governance obligations.
The Senior Finance Director has experience in managing and growing a high-performance finance function. The candidate has shown to be able to lead key company initiatives requiring hands-on involvement. The Senior Finance Director will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, is approachable, acts with integrity ,is comfortable working a cross cultures and time-zones and has Emerging Markets experience. The candidate has shown an ability to work in a geographically spread team and coordinate information and collaboration in this setting.
Because of the Company’s core business, the Senior Finance Director needs to have experience with complex, high-tech and international construction (asset heavy) projects and/or experience within B2B ICT (or a similar industry).
Key Relationships
- Reports directly to the CFO. Right hand of the CFO ;
- Provides direct leadership to the (international) financial accounting team (9 employees: 3 based in Netherlands and 6 based in various countries / SPV’s across the globe);
- Works closely with the Group Business Controller and Head of Project Finance & Treasury
Tasks & responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
Reporting, banking, tax and risk management
- Oversee, manage and ensure accurate and timely preparation and filing of annual financial statements of all entities within the Group (local GAAP and IFRS, stand-alone and consolidated). This requires coordination with internal teams, in-country teams and third parties and, significant hands-on and personal involvement;
- Manage, in close coordination with the CFO, and local group finance teams the annual external audit processes, strictly adhering to deadlines and ensuring an adequate planning;
- Manage the financial reporting for the Group, including monthly financial reporting (including recording of FX), for management, the Board and potentially other external stakeholders, including budget to actuals analysis;
- Drive/ manage the Budget process;
- Manage, oversee and prepare accurate and timely cash flow projections and working capital requirements of the Group;
- In tandem with the Head of Project Finance/Treasury, oversee and be responsible for treasury and cash management across the group, ensuring the timely and accurate execution of payments across the Group, both intergroup and to third parties, making sure that country specific requirements for executing payments are adhered to;
- Ensure that the Group, including all subsidiaries, is fully tax compliant in all aspects (WHT, VAT and CIT filings and payments), including adherence to transfer pricing policies. Think pro-actively about and propose to management tax optimisation strategies within the Group;
- Take overall responsibility in proper Cost control], including automating this process;
- Be responsible for improving the Group’s Risk Management System. Implement relevant controls within the Group to mitigate risks related to all key processes (sales, procurement, treasury, projects, HR);
- Be responsible for ensuring all required insurances are in place across the Group providing adequate and necessary coverage for the Group’s activities and meeting both internal requirements and those of external stakeholders (e.g. Lenders);
- Interactions with stakeholders as needed or required by Management, including Lenders and the Board, satisfying their requirements (financial reporting, insurance) while acting in the best interest of the group;
- Continuously improve the Company’s policies and procedures related to finance and IT;
- Ensure overall compliance and adherence to KYC.
IT
- Be responsible for the implementation and improvement of Microsoft Dynamics (Business Central, automated payments/invoicing, full bookkeeping in business central including proper daily FX bookings, consolidation and elimination)
- Coordinate the implementation and improvement project in collaboration with an external IT service provider, leading towards a fully automated ERP/application-based environment (for bookkeeping, consolidation, forecasting etc)
- Operating in a fully automated environment must be your 2nd nature.

Candidate profile
- A Master degree (or equivalent) in finance, accounting or business administration;
- Certified public accountant designation (CPA/CA/CIMA) or registered accountant (RA) is strongly preferred;
- 10-15 years of proven experience with organizations operating (and leading teams) in multiple jurisdictions (preferably emerging markets);
- Big 4 experience, combined with experience within a medium sized, fast growing private equity owned company with international footprint;
- Experience with re-design (building) of a (Finance) organization preferred;
- In-depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and practical application thereof
- Has experience in improving processes, controls and mitigating risks;
- Has managed teams, of both direct reports and in a matrix environment with multiple subsidiaries.
- Experience with overseeing practical and pragmatic ERP implementation and integration, preferably Dynamics (ERP, CRM, Microsoft Projects, BI). And is very familiar with automated processes and controls;
- Working experience within a global company (consolidation of entities, international tax, transfer pricing policies);
- Must have excellent knowledge of various accounting principles;
- Complex construction (projects) or similar industry experience (asset heavy / project finance) is preferred;
- Experience with complex project finance and debt arrangements with syndicates of lenders is preferred;.
