The Position
 
Our client is currently reviewing their corporate finance structure and is therefore looking to further professionalize and strengthen their finance organisation. 
 
The Senior Group Business Controller is a key member of the group corporate control team which is responsible for corporate navigation (corporate intelligence, strategic planning, budgets, reporting, review meetings, benchmarking, target setting) and which sets the professional standards for the finance function. The Director Group Control has three direct reports being the Group Financial Controller and two Senior Group Business Controllers. 
 
The team provides the Executive Board and the management of the Business Groups with value-added  strategic decision support and advice (in line with the corporate  strategy and governance as well as in compliance with F&A guidelines) relating to major financial Executive Board- decisions in order to contribute to the enhancement and sustainability of (financial) performance of the current and future organization.  
Furthermore the team manages various financial projects with currently a focus on restructuring, financing projects.
 
The Senior Group Business Controller key headline responsibilities include:
  • Lead a high quality planning & control cycle (data & analysis) and provide insight to management, internal and external stakeholders on financial performance. 
  • Participate in and lead periodic review of performance and financial indicators, support management and/or Executive Board Members in identification of risks and opportunities and enforcing of appropriate actions.  
  • Be a sparring partner for the Director Group Control and the several Project members in which you participate, 
  • Review and analysis of the monthly and quarterly figures/ reports reported by the segments
  • Supporting the Director Group Control to prepare monthly and quarterly management reports (KPI’s, trends, explanation of deviations per segment)  for the Executive Board and Supervisory Board
  • Preparations of financial tables for press releases and analyst presentations
  • Participate with divisional CFOs, Controllers and Group Internal Audit in projects to ensure improvements in the financial and operational reports and controls. 
  • Input to the preparation and management of the collation of annual budgets, business plans and annual reports
  • Responsible for maintaining contacts with country management teams, EB members and other senior management and other stakeholders in the organisation
  • Proactive advice to the Director Group Control and Executive Board members on all kinds of areas
  • Other ad hoc projects
 
The role will be based at the Head Office in the Netherlands (province South Holland); international travel will be part of the job (25%).
 
Candidate Profile
 
This job requires a qualified finance professional with strong relevant technical and analytical skills, and a good foundation of financial management awareness. 
 
Specifically, the successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience:
 
  • Executive Master in Finance & Control (RC or RA) with a clearly proven track record of post qualification experience of 8-10 years
  • Effective communication and influencing skills, with a commercial understanding and customer focus
  • Good analytical and problem solving ability with a focus on delivery and turning ideas into action.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleague
  • Understanding principles and applying the principles of internal control policies and accounting procedures/ Legal and tax requirements local and corporate 
  • Able to identify areas of financial risk
  • Strong Excel working knowledge 
  • Hands on mentality
  • Experience in working internationally
  • Fluent business English as a principal operating language; other languages advantageous
