Senior Project Manager Information Systems

The organisation

Galapagos’ activities are rapidly expanding, leading to an increased need for new computer systems throughout the company. The central Information Systems (IS) department works in close cooperation with all departments to select, implement and support systems. Many of the activities are executed through planned projects.

The scope of projects is broad. The majority of projects are in support of Research and Development Operations but since each department in Galapagos is expanding, projects to support Shared Services are also part of the scope. In addition, Galapagos is preparing for new areas, like Commercial Operations, and these will be needing system solutions as well. All of this results in a very interesting work environment with more than enough variation!

The position

To help manage this broad portfolio of projects we are looking for an experienced, full time Project Manager to lead a variety of implementation projects. You will report directly to the Head of IS and you are expected to manage an agreed portfolio of projects with minimal supervision. You will preferably be based in Mechelen, Belgium. However, most of the projects are global and a certain amount of travel will be part of job.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Information Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• 10 years relevant experience, of which at least 5 in a Pharmaceutical environment;
• Proven track record leading complex IS projects;
• The ability to work independently, being able to partner on all applicable levels with the user groups;
• The ability to translate project objectives into actionable team goals and motivate teams in the successful execution;
• The ability to facilitate the selection of the best system solutions for complex business challenges;
• Good communicator, both in English (must) as well as in Dutch (preferred) or French (a plus).
