The position

To act as an in-house commercial lawyer as part of an active and engaged EMEA legal team committed to enabling our clients' continued commercial success. The role is to be located in their Amsterdam office. This role is to provide support to our EMEA business teams as part of our wider EMEA legal team.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Providing day to day legal support on various legal issues across the EMEA business.
  • Drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts with suppliers, distributors and customers.
  • Providing legal advice on contractual arrangements, helping to ensure that the business understands its rights and obligations and extracts value from the terms agreed.
  • Identifying, advising on and mitigating legal risks; ensuring that those risks are reporting in line with the Dyson legal risk framework.
  • Day to day advice to the markets on the implementation and interpretation of the relevant compliance policies (including competition law related policies).
  • Conducting training for business.
  • Managing and prioritising resources, which will include engaging and managing external counsel.
  • Managing the escalation and reporting of risks to the line manager.
  • Maintaining and developing knowledge retention and sharing best practices with the team.

Candidate profile

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 - 8 years post-qualification experience in a commercial or commercial corporate role. In-house experience is an advantage. The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a solid background in commercial law and an ability to apply that knowledge in a practical and pragmatic way.
  • Have strong drafting skills and extensive experience of contract negotiation.
  • Be able to identify and contextualise risk, categorise it by reference to its likelihood to materialise and potential impact on our client and provide appropriate mitigation options for consideration by the business.
  • Be able to adapt communication styles to the situation and stakeholders incorporating both legal and commercial issues in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Have good awareness of the role of the legal function in a large business and have the ability to contribute actively in the taking of key business decisions.
  • Have an appetite to learn new skills and the versatility and technical ability to deal with issues outside of their experience and learn quickly on the job.
  • Be able to work with a minimum level of supervision in a fast paced, constantly changing but supportive environment.
  • Have experience or interest in design and engineering and an aptitude to learn to understand technical discussions.
  • Have the confidence and gravitas to challenge decisions and actions when required.
  • Be a fluent English speaker (other European languages a plus).
  • Experience with Turkish law is a (big) plus.
  • Be a skilled communicator and capable of interacting with the business at all levels, to build effective relationships and earn credibility across the business.
  • Be able to independently manage senior stakeholders.
  • Has solid collaboration and team-working skills in order to work both on projects with other legal functions and with wider business with stakeholders of varying backgrounds and seniority.
