Board Member (R&D, BD)

The position

For reason of succession, we are looking for a Director of Research and Business Development who will be responsible for the development of the scientific strategy within the organisation.

Tasks & responsibilities

He/she will provide leadership, ongoing evaluations and support to operational groups and vendors who (co-)manage or support research & business development to ensure that quality, time, budget and deliverables are met.

• You will be a member of the Board of Directors
• You are responsible for the business creation, design and initiation of clinical study programs
• You will build and maintain a strong network with sponsors (pharmaceutical companies, medical technology companies) at senior medical and management level
• You are responsible for leading the discussions between experts and the industry to come to viable project proposals at senior medical and management level
• You will be responsible for the medical affairs department (study design/project acquisition, protocol development, core lab supervisor, core lab development, event adjudication, safety/medical review, publication)
• You are interested to build up and maintain a network of Clinical Trial Specialists and Key Opinion Leaders. Being updated on the latest developments in both the pharmaceutical as the medical devices area, which will trigger new clinical questions.
• You are responsible for the translation of these questions into study designs (providing advice where needed), and bringing together experts to set up a study proposal for one or more industry partners

Candidate profile

• Master and Ph.D. in for example biology/MD/pharmacy
• Extensive experience in clinical development in both medical devices as pharmaceuticals
• Proven track-record in clinical program development
• Thorough understanding of the financial drivers of clinical trials, for both medical devices and pharmaceutical, as well as for pre and for post-marketing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers and clients
• Positive attitude and ability to interact with all levels of staff to coordinate and execute study activities
• Good judgment and decision making skills, ability to reason independently for the purpose of assessing and recommending specific solutions in clinical settings
• Excellent skills in working with academic leadership of clinical trials
• Strong business acumen and empathy
• Willingness to travel
• Fluent in Dutch and English
