Climate Action Director

The position

You will lead efforts to grow an outstanding global portfolio of environmentally regenerative supply chains and Climate Action programmes based around our estates and farming operations, and across highly diverse supply chains; helping to reduce the greenhouse gas footprint in line with the ambitious Science Based Targets (SBT) for climate, and generating multiple social and environmental benefits in the landscapes where we operate. The company's Climate Action portfolio will generate business value through verified Carbon credits and SBT-linked GHG reductions, for use in the internal carbon exchange, for sale in global carbon markets, and as a commercial offering to customers. 

The company is an industry leader when it comes to sustainability, pioneering in climate-smart and environmentally sustainable food production. Its efforts include ambitious Science Based Targets to drive a reversal in greenhouse gas emissions through climate smart, biodiversity friendly agriculture and supply chains. 

The Director of Climate Action will develop and own the execution climate action and nature-based solutions to further the company's efforts in sustainability agriculture. This includes developing strategies and action plants to protect and restore ecosystems, but also to find and set up strategic partnerships to further enhance the financing of these efforts. 

The Director of Climate Action sets the agenda and monitor the efforts the company makes towards sustainability in the supply chain, provide internal leadership for his/her own team and to the people on the ground through the matrix and work with external partners to work together with customers, NGO's and partners to further the sustainability agenda.

The Director will navigate private and public market to build consultative relationships with sophisticated buyers, alongside the growth and delivery on a substantial deal pipeline. You will influence growth and deliver value within a purpose-led environment. The Director is part of the Global Sustainability Team and a key contributor to the strategic director of the company's climate efforts. This role oversees a team and works closely with internal technical leads. 

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in climate finance, climate-related policy, and partnership building. This role will directly engage policymakers, financiers, and philanthropists. Tasks & responsibilities

• Develop and lead the company's Climate Action Plan in conjunction with other business units.
• Articulate how nature-based solutions and carbon markets can be utilised for impact-first opportunities.
• Co-ordinate and oversee cross divisional sustainability activities, projects and processes in regards to Climate Action
• Map key stakeholders across industry and the community and deliver an approved strategy for positive engagement.
• Foster, engage and manage significant transaction structuring and origination deals with the corporate, banking, conservation finance or asset management sectors.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure sustainability targets and projects remain on track and outcomes achieved
• Maintain direct relationships with all critical stakeholders and inform the business where relevant on critical issues.
• Establish and deliver on key metrics for engagement.
• Work closely with the individual project directors and others on a coordinated approach to stakeholder engagement.

Candidate profile

• A graduate degree and minimum of ten years of applied work experience, on ecology and carbon, in a relevant nonprofit, public or private sector organization involved in carbon carbon credits, climate finance
• Background in climate financing from a commercial perspective, a banking or investing background. Experience with impact, sustainability, an ESG portfolio or real assents (such as forestry or agriculture)
• Experience working in a global setting
• Engaging with corporate and financial institutions to arrange transactions, deals and partnerships.
• An appreciation for advancing nature-based solutions for climate change and conservation.
• Experienced in working across multiple projects and managing multiple internal and external relationships.
• In possession of highly developed interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally.
• Strong knowledge of climate action/nature based solutions, carbon credits, climate finance, land use

The offer

150.000 - 180.000 euros gross yearly salary, excluding bonus
