The organisation

For our client, The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), we’re looking for a new Executive Director. ISBT was founded in 1935 and brings together over 1700 professionals involved in blood transfusion and transfusion medicine in over 107 countries worldwide.

ISBT’s most important activity is to promote science and education related to blood, cells and transplantation. They provide opportunities for the exchange of information on science, clinical practice and research and development related to blood transfusion medicine and associated disciplines.

The position

The Executive Director executes effective management of the ISBT Central Office, liaises with the Board of Directors and membership, ensures the delivery of policies and strategy, and coordinates communications and marketing.

The Executive Director represents and promotes ISBT as a professional society aiming to provide opportunities for advancing knowledge and education and advocacy for the welfare of blood donors and transfusion recipients.

The Executive Director is responsible for financial control according to the Standard Financial procedures and reports in this respect to the President.

Candidate profile

For our client we are looking for an experienced manager with (preferably) a background in hematology or related fields. Furthermore we expect the ideal candidate to: 

• have tertiary qualifications in medicine, a relevant scientific discipline, or business administration
• have experience in managing an organisation with professionals in blood services/academia/healthcare environment
• demonstrate knowledge of strategic/organisational processes
• have experience in working in a scientific environment in blood transfusion
• have experience in a management position in a membership organisation with an executive (not supervisory) board
• have diplomatic skills and sensitivity to international culture and political relations.
