Head of SHEQ

The organisation

For a successful Dutch organization, active in the industrial/mechanical engineering, we are looking for a seasoned and inspiring Head of SHEQ. The organization operates on a global scale and in many diverse industries and projects.

The position

The ideal candidate for this job is an inspiring leader who takes total ownership. She/he is also pragmatic, and a hands-on professional; a true safety ambassador who is highly communicative and energizing. She/he has a clear vision, naturally convinces others and aims to strive for results together with the (management)team.

The Head of SHEQ is an informal leader in the head office, reporting to the CEO, working with the network of regional SHEQ Directors, regional Managing Directors and Board members. We are looking for a seasoned SHEQ professional, who will be leading the organization to its next level of safety performance, with strong influencing skills relative to (behavioral) change management. As a Head of SHEQ you cover a broad spectrum of strategic-tactical-operational activities. Furthermore, we are looking for an energetic, driven leader who ensures a common goal and commitment through intensive, professional and transparent cooperation with all parties.

She/he will drive and improve employee engagement, safety, and quality within the organization by providing professional advice and support on all health, safety, environment, and quality matters, to all levels of employees within the business, meeting legal responsibilities, maintaining certifications, and promoting best practice. As part of this role, you will ensure that Integrated Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems are created, implemented, kept, and improved in accordance with the requirements of ISO standards. You’ll be responsible for developing (safety) policies, audits, reporting, analysis and outlining operational objectives and driving continuous improvement.

Candidate profile

• 10 years+ of SHEQ experience including leadership/management and knowledge
• Proven track record in industries with comparable risk profiles and cultures, including remote job sites
• Demonstrable track record of driving significant change through an operation
• Comparable site (practical) safety experience
• International experience
• Project management knowledge
• Excellent communication and influencing skills - result orientated and tenacious
• Experience in training, coaching, and mentoring to develop SHEQ knowledge and experience across the organization
• Self-starting, pragmatic, hands-on
• Good knowledge of local current and upcoming legislation and current best SHEQ practices
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related science-based degree required. Relevant Master's Degree preferred.
