The organisation
The company is part of a larger public company with multiple direct market subsidiaries and indirect market distributors that sell and distribute its products and solutions worldwide. The company is highly profitable and growing, both organically and inorganically, though its expansive product portfolio. It is a leader in delivering innovative medical device consumables, pharmaceutics and equipment that enhance the work of medical professionals for the benefit of families around the world.
The position
As the Service & Repair Manager, you will build, manage and develop a high-caliber technical team that performs the field service activities for this international company, and its affiliated subsidiaries and brands. Reporting to this position is a team of field service technicians, technical support, and trainers.
The responsibility of the field service technicians is to perform installations, conduct on-site repairs and perform regular service visits to hospitals, clinics and labs across Europe in support of the equipment business. Technical support attempts to identify and troubleshoot problems before a technician is deployed to a site. Training is conducted by a lead trainer with support from other certified trainers.
Tasks & responsibilities
It will be your responsibility to manage the team located throughout Europe and provide continual support. You will set robust standards for professionalism and competencies. You will work closely with the head trainer to ensure that these standards are well understood and developed. You will enhance SOPs and train against those SOPs. You will develop KPIs, measure performance and optimize the output of the team. You will also serve a vital role reporting the equipment issues seen in the field to the R&D and Quality groups by identifying development opportunities and recommending quality improvements to the equipment.
The position requires considerable travel to assist the technicians in their home markets and to continually evaluate, mentor and train the technical team. To minimize length and frequency of travel, it is best if the Manager be located near Central/Western Europe.
Candidate profile
To be successful as a Service Manager you obtained a Bachelor's degree with a technical focus and you have also an Engineering Degree with emphasis or advanced training in mechanical and/or electrical engineering. This Service Manager will also have at least 10 years of service related engineering field, including considerable remote management experience, preferably in medical device equipment servicing across multiple countries, requiring at least one of more of the following focuses: electrical, software and/or mechanical engineering.
You have a sense of business acumen and weekly travelling is no issue for you, as you will meet commercial general managers and their customers and shadow the service engineers in Europe in order to get a profound understanding of the equipment service needs and the client requirements. You will meet senior management and your Director periodically at the headquarters in Europe.
You need the following competencies: flexible, inquisitive, autonomic, independent, analytical, strong leader and good communication skills. You are multilingual with English mastery.
The offer
You will start this challenge at the very beginning, with customer experience being a major focus. The company is financially strong, but there are issues and opportunities in making the Service function more efficient and productive. Servicing medical device capital equipment is a fairly new and expanded initiative for the company, so there are many areas that can be improved.
You can make that positive change happen. You will play a big part in the professionalization of this growing company while traveling to many parts of the world. This medical device company is offering you a good salary with benefits.
