The organization
Ocean Recruitment is a recruitment company dedicated to the chemical and raw materials industry. For one of our clients we are searching for a Manager Production (6 direct reports, ca. 100 indirect reports). The Manager Operations will report to the Head of Operations.
Our client is one of the leading production companies in Europe and offers a wide range of surfactants, chemical specialties, paper process chemicals and customer-specific products for various industries. Being a member of a global group, products are sold worldwide.
The position
Manage Production and Internal Logistics in order to make the Production and Internal Logistics policies an integral part of company policies. Focus on Operational Excellence to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Co-formulate, implement and update the Production and Internal Logistics policies in line with the objectives of our client, thereby making the Production and Internal Logistics policies an integral part of company policies.
- Prepare activity plans to ensure achievement of safety, compliance, quality, quantity, schedule and cost objectives.
- Ensure the deployment of trained staff, appropriate equipment. Focus on Operational Excellence to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
Policy, management and organization
- Initiating, shaping and co-determining corporate policy regarding Production and Internal Logistics (safety, compliance, quality, planning and costs).
- Preparing and managing the integrated investment plan for Production and Internal Logistics.
- Optimising the production and logistic results in the broadest sense of the word by applying the tools available within Operational Excellence.
- responsible for adequate systems and tools; an adequate internal departmental organization, departmental budget, procedures and working methods, excellent employees, communication, such that the plans and activities are carried out according to the standards.
- creating conditions for and establishing and maintaining good contacts and (working) relationships, both internally and externally (parent organization, suppliers, contractors, users of installations and facilities).
- the timely execution of all Production and Internal Logistics related actions, action plans, audits, controls.
- taking corrective measures in response to findings from internal and external audits.
Production
- Ensuring optimal coordination of staffing, machine capacity and raw materials and auxiliary materials.
- Monitoring, adjusting and evaluating production results and taking care of the reports.
- Coordinating activities that go beyond production and assigning specific (project) activities. Ensuring the management of production resources. Supervising and ensuring compliance with procedures and regulations.
- Keeping in touch of (production-technical) developments and possibilities and initiating improvements.
Internal Logistics
- Realising an efficient integral goods flow, in such a way that the required goods (internal and external) are at the right place at the right time in the right quantity and at justifiable costs.
Management of change
- Responsible for the correct application, interpretation and execution of the Management of Change within the Production and Internal Logistics organisation.
Operational Excellence
- Responsible for the optimisation of Production and Internal Logistics related activities within the framework of the Continuous Improvement objectives of the organisation.
- Creating a culture in which continuous improvement is a core value of the organisation and is permanently anchored in it.
Health/Safety/Environment/Compliance
- Supervise and comply with HSE and company regulations and report deviations, such that a safe working environment is realized and applicable laws and regulations are applied.
- Ensure products meet quality specifications. Co-execute quality, safety and environmental audits. Carry out the action points identified during the audits.
- Ensure proper procedures are in place regarding compliance and all HSE aspects. Ensure compliance with the requirements of these management systems.
Personnel
- Supervising employees in the performance of their work in such a way that the work is performed efficiently and the company's personnel policy is complied with.
Candidate profile
- University (of applied science) education in chemistry, chemical technology and/or business administration.
- Additional education/course in the field of Continuous Improvement /LEAN Manufacturing, Project Management, Operations or Plant Management.
- Minimum of 7 years working experience as a Production Manager in an industrial environment, preferably in the process industry.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement programs, such as lean /six sigma.
- Preferably familiar with a 5-shift system and its impact on the organization.
- Mix of vision, empathy, organizational sensitivity and sense of urgency.
- Service-oriented, advisory, convincing, socially intelligent and authentic.
- Process-driven, but pragmatic in approach and implementation.
- Must be able to respond to off-hours emergencies.
- Ability to work weekends, during holidays and be available for non-routine calls.
- Other characteristics are: communicative, creative, result-oriented, analytical and structured.
- Excellent command of the Dutch and English languages
