Business Development Manager (renewable projects)

Companies must help prevent the worst impacts of climate change by reducing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as much and as quickly as possible. This includes reducing value chain emissions.

Headquartered in Rotterdam, Finco Fuel is a true Dutch company, known as fuel supplier to the transport sector. Re-evaluating their course a few years ago, they are transitioning from a fossil fuel supplier towards a renewable energy supplier. By 2035, the company aims to be fully converted to renewables.

FinCo Fuel employs over 200 close-knit and driven professionals. And they are ready to expand their renewables team with a Business Development Manager focussing on Renewable Projects to structure, accelerate and achieve the transition in the transport sector.

The position

In this challenging role as Business Development Manager, you are motivated to develop projects that boost the energy transition. You are part of a small, but continuously growing and ambitious team that sources renewable projects. Although FinCo used to be focused on liquid fossil fuels only, they have committed to transforming to renewable energy sources in various forms. FinCo Fuel aims to fully convert its client portfolio to renewables by 2035. This requires a fundamental change and an increase in capacity. The renewables team, currently consisting of five professionals, is expected to grow to 25 in the coming years. The first milestones and targets are already set for 2026.

The energy transition is known to have multiple solutions, which are often still in an experimental or scale-up phase. FinCo Fuel closely monitors the wide variety of raw materials and conversion technologies available in the market. They invest in innovation, conversion technologies, and partnerships to make an impact. Projects you could be managing involve green hydrogen production, alternative hydrogen carriers, sustainable marine fuels, biomass or bio methanol. We expect you to be an entrepreneur within the company. You are creative and knowledgeable in energy transition related topics. You excel in building partnerships and developing strong and valuable networks. You have relentless enthusiasm for sustainability and inspire both clients and colleagues. The company provides a daily healthy team lunch, and they organise team events regularly. This role will be based in Rotterdam but may involve occasional travel.

Candidate profile

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in a commercial or technical discipline.
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of energy transition, renewable fuels, circularity, or sustainability.
• Track record in business development or project management.
• Experienced in storytelling and stakeholder management.
• Passion for sustainability and desire to make a positive impact.
• Entrepreneurial, creative thinker, driven, energetic and proactive.
• Growth mindset and ability to adapt in a young and dynamic company.
• Excellent communication skills in English. Dutch or other languages are seen as a plus.
