Founded in November 1985 by Thomas G. Stemberg and Leo Kahn, Staples has been expanding globally with consistent double digit growth rates and  accumulated  revenues of $ 23 billion in 2010. Operations are spread out over 27 countries throughout the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Staples operates in 16 countries in Europe. The regional head office is located in Amsterdam and employs 160 professionals.

Staples uses three sales channels:

  1. Contract: Staples Advantage
  2. Retail: Staples Office Centre
  3. Online/catalog: Staples Direct

Staples Advantage is the B2B department serving corporate accounts.

The international company that Staples is today has resulted from numerous acquisitions. Much of its success stems from the ability to assimilate best practices and implement them into a homogenous B2B trading concept.

The European Sales Operations Department deploys programs that increase bottom line results by achieving operational excellence.

Over de functie

The Director Sales Operations is the broker that balances the unique cultural qualities of the operating countries with best practice concepts & assets that Staples has developed throughout the years. He identifies, defines and deploys the sales processes, the go to market approaches and the business process blueprint for Customer Management in a holistic way. These include metric systems, sales development programs, customer profitability management, CRM/SFA tools, bid/pricing instruments, implementation of global and European  accounts, and e-business principles. This in close cooperation with the business and Staples headquarters in the US.

The Director Sales Operations works closely with the Managing Directors of the different countries. Some operations are mature, well organized and highly profitable. Others are emerging and inexperienced. All share the eagerness to grow. The Sales Operations team facilitates their business with tools to improve their operational excellence.

The Director Sales Operations manages the Sales Operations team and reports into the Vice President Contract/Head of Staples Advantage Europe who is also based in  Amsterdam.

The Sales Operations Team has 5 departments:

  • Sales Operations/Program Management: 1 Program Manager with 5 project managers
  • Commercial Team (Tender Team): 1 Commercial Team Manager with 5 direct reports
  • Process Management: 1 Process Manager Sales
  • E-Business: 3 E-business managers
  • Business Management: 1 Business Development Manager Facility Products

Relevante functie-eisen

  • 12 to 18 years of work experience
  • Personality
  • Strategy consulting or program management background
  • Highly persuasive by delivering fact based arguments with commercial eloquence
  • Sales Operations and/or Sales Management experience
  • Thorough project management skills
  • Strong financial acumen
  • International corporate experience
