Its major brand, Thermo King, was founded in 1938 and leads the world in manufacturing transport temperature control systems for a variety of mobile applications, including trucks and trailers, marine & rail.

The position

We have a great opportunity for a Global Engineering Leader to join the Thermo King business.

You will be responsible for leading the Engineering Excellence Strategic Business Unit to ensure product robustness and develop technical talents within the engineering organization.

You will be responsible for leading Engineering for Marine, Rail, and Air (MRA) globally, managing both assigned internal and external resources effectively to meet objectives for the function.

You will be the leader in coordinating and managing multiple projects simultaneously, and providing the strategic direction to the team in order to meet goals. You will be integral to the success of the MRA product lines, and will work across functions, locations, and regions to ensure global alignment/synergies, with keeping the regional need for that business.

You will lead a global team of some 30 people based in different locations. You will report into the VP Engineering Thermoking.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage functional team of Design, Refrigeration, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineers and Prototype Technicians in the design and development of complete refrigeration products, systems, and components; provide technical leadership to meet engineering
• requirements for schedule, direct product cost, project cost, and keeping quality and reliability as a key factor
• Working with the PGT to develop the multi-generational product plans, develop business strategy, prioritize the needs of the business and to evaluate business cases for various programs
• Conduct development of new products and extensions of current products and components; pursue new development in all engineering and manufacturing technologies
• Coordinate each phase of complex design projects involving complete systems and other team leads to prioritize overall requirements and reallocate resources accordingly
• Provide management and project sponsors with appropriate, timely, and accurate updates of project status and plans, including monthly reports, gate review records, and resource requirements
• Communicate effectively with teams and within management structure to facilitate workflow and effect resolution to project barriers; take responsibility for the continuing development of core team
• Ensure strong development and engagement of team, celebrating individual and team successes, and creating strong action plans from the employee engagement survey
• Complete assessment of environment impact of designed products and identify energy efficiency gains to minimize affect in atmosphere
• Support critical customer facing events to promote our technical solutions to external customers

Candidate profile

Our ideal candidate has the following skills and competencies:

• Natural leader with an eye for people and a focus on results
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (ME or EE) with 10+ years’ experience in design and a successful team leadership experience
• Knowledge of the marine or rail market is desirable, refrigeration knowledge is a plus
• Demonstrated high level of technical project management and high communication skills
• Clearly demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate, organize, and motivate multiple teams toward common goals
• Ability to embrace and utilize diversity (cultural and/or otherwise) to empower others to achieve results; strong skills in working with multicultural team environment
• Excellent interpersonal and persuasion skills, both verbal and written, and experience with team processes and facilitation
• Strong PC skills with strong knowledge and previous utilization of project management software (MS Project) and a thorough understanding of the New Product Development Gate System and PLM (Windchill) requirements
• Creative, curious, thinks out of the box; thinks strategically, with a bias to execution
• Fluency in English. A second language proficiency is a plus
• Ability to travel ~ 15%
