ROV Tooling Specialist

Our Client

For our office in the Rotterdam Area, we are looking for an ROV Tooling Specialist.

The ROV Tooling Specialist is an office-based member of the Subsea Services Department. The department is responsible for planning, organising and implementing ROV tooling activities. The ROV Tooling Specialist is an innovative and creative centre in the Subsea Services Department, ensuring that high quality ROV tooling services and support are continuously available to all vessels, departments and projects. The ROV Tooling Specialist reports to the Unit Head ROV for all aspects of his/her job. When acting as ROV Tooling Engineer for a particular project, he/she will also report to the respective Project Manager, but only for the discipline activities exercised in that project.

The Position

• Manage the ROV Tooling Engineers in the office/yard and ROV Supervisors on board the vessels, and communicate with all involved Departments on ROV tooling progress and other related issues;
• Deliver technical clarification leading to the procurement of suitable ROV tooling systems;
• Lead discussions and/or negotiations with ROV tooling manufacturers/subcontractors;
• Review contracts and advise on ROV tooling content;
• Interact with clients (internal departments) and subcontractors (ROV tooling companies) to deliver tooling;
• Provide input for tenders and proposals with details on ROV tooling;
• Prepare and coordinate ROV tooling activities, including procedures and attendance at FAT and SIT, and monitor the tools being used in subsea activities;
• Resolve disputes between clients, subcontractors and/or internal departments;
• Control the cost development of ROV tooling projects;
• Attend weekly meeting with Department Head, Unit Head ROV, Supervisor Survey Engineer;
• With Projects and Engineering, discuss priority of ROV Tooling activities and possible utilisation on projects;
• Initiate and/or motivate alternative ways to perform ROV tooling-related work, and discuss related items with Unit Head ROV, Project Surveyors;
• Stay up-to-date with the latest information on ROV tooling-related hardware/software;
• Monitor the health, safety and environmental activities of the Survey Department to ensure compliance with agreed procedures and the company safety plan;
• Communicate offshore emergency information whenever necessary, in accordance with the safety bridging document;
• Develop and maintain the ROV tooling library, including certification, planned maintenance and lessons learned, and keep a database of spare parts and replacement parts for these tools by producing and maintaining an up-to-date tooling matrix.

Candidate profile

• BSc Mechanical, Production Engineering and Design with additional knowledge of wellheads, workover system, tie-ins;
• FMC Subsea School, Oceaneering or similar training;
• Number of years’ experience determines the seniority of this position;
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant offshore ROV tooling support or maintenance experience, preferably in a Tooling Engineer or Tooling Supervisor role;
• Alternatively, 8 years in Subsea Engineering, Subsea Construction and/or Design Engineering;
• ROV construction experience is a prerequisite;
• Preferably, experience with subsea structures like manifolds, x-trees, pipelines etc.;
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook, Solidworks and/or Autocad;
• Team builder;
• Good negotiation and communication skills;
• Strong commercial aptitude, cost conscious;
• Accurate and flexible working attitude;
• Good command of the English language, both written and spoken;
• Willing to travel.
