The position
The Vessel Manager is the intermediary between the vessels and the departments within the office, and ensures that the vessels meet the project requirements and optimise the project planning.
The Vessel Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, all schedule related and budget related matters and decides which issues are to be dealt with by Asset Team members.
VMT’s (Master, Superintendent, Chief Engineer) will report directly to the Vessel Manager for the day-to-day operations. Asset Team members will report directly to the Vessel Manager for vessel related matters. The Vessel Manager reports directly to Manager Projects.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Focus all activities in order to meet overall corporate objectives (mission statement) and departmental tasks
- Familiarise and comply with the companies Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental management system
- Comply with and support of the matrix organisation
- Provide tender input as requested by the Proposals Department
- Familiarise with project requirements and provide input in the project preparations;
- Liaise with vessels on the project preparations and ensure all project procedures and drawings are discussed with VMT before start of project;
- Perform interdiscipline checks on project specific and general installation procedures;
- Ensure adequate follow-up of problems encountered by the vessels offshore;
- Manage port calls of the vessels in preparation of the offshore execution;
- Manage all onshore support to the vessels during execution of the offshore work;
- Liaise with P&O on recruitment of offshore personnel;
- Manage and co-ordinate all vessel related activities of the Asset Team members;
- Liaise with other departments if and when required;
- Liaise with Project Department on impact of changes in seasonal schedule and/or changes in vessel
- Movements;
- Ensure the suitability and fit for purpose state of chartered vessels is assessed;
- Identify areas of exposure or improvements within the Operations Department.
- Direct the vessels and asset team members as required.
Candidate profile
- HTS/Nautical level
- Minimum of four years of relevant experience, preferably in an offshore or marine environment
- Good command of the English language, both written and verbal
- Excellent communicator, pragmatic problem solver, teamplayer
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail
- Willing to travel
